OUR FAQS

WHO CAN BENEFIT FROM MEDICAL ACUPUNCTURE?

Anyone from baby to adults, from short term conditions to long term conditions. It helps to have a mindset that is open to alternative treatments and acupuncture can be very beneficial alongside traditional medical treatment.
It is important to remember that acupuncture cannot cure the underlying disease process but it can be very useful in symptom management.

HOW IS CLINIC 92DIFFERENT FROM OTHER CLINICS?

Clinic 92 uses only Western Medical Acupuncture which is an honest, evidence based approach to using acupuncture with those trained in it having the experience and knowledge of traditional medical care.

Because of the honest approach to accupuncture treatments, patients are not given 'the hard sell' for any other products such as herbal tablets like in some high street Chinese acupuncturist and we do not give false promises.

Western Medical Acupuncture does not seek to diagnose medical conditions by using transitional chinese methods but rather focusing on the symptom management of already known or diagnosed conditions.

The clinic is quiet and home based, offering treatments to the whole family with a special interest in children's care.

WHAT PAYMENTS AND INSURANCES DO YOU ACCEPT?

The clinic currently accepts card payments via a secure iZettle card machine and cash payments.

The clinic can provide receipts for insurance claims, but please check that your insurer will accept the claim first before booking an appointment. The insurer may wish to know how kerry is trained in acupuncture - She has completed training with the BMAS (British Medical Acupuncture Society) and is also a registered BMAS member. Kerry also holds an MBBS in Medicine and the post graduate qualification, MRCPCH with the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health.

WHAT HAPPENS IN THE ACUPUNCTURE INITIAL CONSULTATION AND FURTHER SESSIONS?

This initial consultation will last up to an hour and will include talking about the history of the problem you wish to be treated, consent and an initial acupuncture treatment. From the initial consultation, we should be able to give a rough idea of how many treatment sessions may be appropriate.

The next sessions will be shorter up to 45 minutes and be more treatment based with a short catch up chat from the last session.

During the session, you will be able to relax on a comfortable treatment bed and the treatment room offers ambient music, whilst have fine acupuncture needles placed in specific acupuncture points depending on your specific needs. You will then be left for anything from a few minutes to 30 minutes with the fine needles in situ, sometimes with occasional stimulation of the needles.

The treatment time, the acupuncture points needled and the depth the needles are placed is all personalised to you and if at any point you feel that the treatment is too strong for you, the needles can be brought out.

WHERE IS THE CLINIC AND IS THERE PARKING?

HOW MANY SESSIONS OF ACUPUNCTURE WILL I REQUIRE?

This all depends on the condition and symptoms you are seeking treatment for but we can usually give you a rough idea in the initial consultation of how many treatments you may require.
As a general rule, longer term conditions usually require more treatments (for example, weekly treatments for 2 months) than shorter term recently acquired conditions (which may only need a few sessions). Longer term conditions may need 'top up' treatments to maintain symptom control (which are available at the same price as 'further treatments' with no need for another initial consultation if attending for a previously treated condition.

ARE THERE ANY SIDE EFFECTS OF TREATMENT?

The side effect profile is low for acupuncture and in fact most people report a sense of well being and relaxation after treatments.
Of course though, as the needles pierce the skin, they can produce minimal bleeding or very mild bruising but on the whole, they do not. Some areas can ache afterwards but usually quickly recover.
As treatments can cause relation and sleepiness afterwards we recommend that you take part in only light activities afterwards if you are affected in this way.
On occasion the treatment can rest in a temporary worsening of symptoms but this is temporary!

HOW DO YOU TREAT CHILDREN WITH ACPUNCTURE?

Babies and children will get the same in depth history taking on initial consultation as adults but their treatment will differ from here.

Children are often 'strong responders' and will need only minimal acupuncture stimulation (few points needled) and the`use extremely fine needles. For babies this may mean only having 1-2 acupuncture points needing to be gently simulated for a very short amount of time for the same effect as you would gain on an adult.
